new workout plan not working well

I understand if something isn't working that i should change it up, but my question is why isn't it working so i can learn from my mistake. i got a workout program from an online personal trainer (well known on instagram). i was previously doing a 5X5 program and advancing, he put me on a program with completely new exercises i have never done. example instead of squats he has me doing lunges. my progress is gone.
 
Progress is gone but doesnt mean its wrong, try different ways to train and shock your body.
 
your progress isnt gone whatsoever... you should always be changing ways and methods frequently or else your body gets used to the same things over and over and will not respond nearly like it should be... you have to continuously change things up
 
depends on what your definition of progress means. you cannot just improve in a linear fashion, if you could then everyone on here would be benching 1000 pounds by now.

Ask him.
 
We adapt rather quickly so it's best to always try different lifts and different reps at different weights.
