Replacement for ambien

I wasn’t sure if I should post this here or in the supplements area. Please forgive me if it is in the wrong place.

I have an ambien prescription from my doctor. We have tried other prescriptions in the last but this is the only thing that gets me to sleep. I’ve read that long term use is not good so I’m looking for something that would be as effective. Melatonin does nothing for me. With one ambien at night I sleep like a baby. I wake up refreshed and ready to rock the day every single morning.

Any suggestions? I workout 5-6 days a week. About 12-14% body fat. 45 years old. 6 feet tall. 200 lbs. I’m in pretty good shape. I have a 6-pack without flexing. take 200mg of TRT every 7-10 days or 100mg every 5ish days.

I appreciate any help or suggestions

@Teecee if Ambien is the only thing that knocks you out, I get why you lean on it brother Ive been there, but long term you want to cycle in some safer options. Good stack to try is magnesium glycinate before bed, L-theanine with your last meal, and a solid dose of glycine which a lot of lifters use for deeper sleep. You can also add ashwagandha, that helps calm the nervous system especially when you’re training heavy like you do. Some guys swear by ZMA, and it’s worth trying ed. Valerian root and chamomile are old school but they can take the edge off, especially stacked together. Keep your room dark, cool, and tech free for at least 30 minutes before bed to let all this stuff actually work. Rotate those brother and you might find you don’t need Ambien every single night.

Thanks, boss. I will try some of these other options. My doc prescribed me a few different things, but they never came close to Ambien. Ambien works so well. I take it, and in 20 minutes, I'm snoozing hard.

Is there an order you would suggest trying this stuff or take it all?

  • Magnesium Glycinate
  • L-Theanine
  • Glycine
  • Ashwagandha
  • ZMA
  • Valerian Root
  • Chamomile

at the end of the day ANY type of sleep aid is not good. you want to aim eventually to sleep without needing a downer. there are A LOT of things that people do wrong. a couple tips i can give you is wear blue blocker glasses (they are cheap on amazon) before bed, get off stimulants which keep you up, and work on more sleep habits that can improve you

there are a lot of sleep supplements. you gotta mix and match what works. you drinking caffeine? that will keep you awake

100%. Which is why I take ambien. I’ve heard people say you shouldn’t take ambien long term but I’ve been on it for years. With it I sleep wonderful. I wake up fully rested. I’m 45 and in the best shape of my life. I couldn’t do that without great sleep.

The possible long term side effects, for me, are nothing compared to sleeping. I don’t really have any long term side effects. I get my blood tested every 6 months. All of my levels are in the green. No depression or anything like that.

yes the problem is ambien has serious sides brother @Teecee
you have anxiety issues which probably stem from diet training, can you start your log journal? I think we can get to the bottom of the issue.
you on cycle now?

Blue blockers? What is that?
blue blocker glasses. i've been using them for years. you put them on 2 hours before you plan on sleeping day or night. they will block blue light and send melatonan up and your brain will think its night time. its a must if you use electronics at night as well. also a lot of computers will allow you to turn off blue light at a certain time

the reason for this is 2 things

1. once you take it you will need it forever, hard to come off
2. any sleep aid will prevent deep sleep from happening. superior sleep is down organically without any aids

Do you use them while watching TV? My wife and I like to end the night with a show before bed a few times per week. I will check them out.

1. That is probably right for most people. I kinda see it as you do this to get that. Take ambien = sleep great. All of the side effects that people CAN have are just not there for me. I did not start this post to discuss why ambien potentially bad. I am just trying to find other solutions, hopefully more natural ones, to get good sleep. Good Sleep > all.
2. That would be the end goal. I do not know much about deep sleep. I know if I take an ambien, I wake up feeling great. I usually get up without an alarm and earlier than I need to because I am rested. On days that I am out by the pool all day or at the beach, I feel like I am utterly exhausted by the end of the day and I can fall asleep anywhere at anytime, no ambien required. Maybe I just need to train extra hard in the sun all day!!! lol

Ambien does not have serious side effects for me. I might be the exception to the rule, but it is what it is. I do not have anxiety issues. I am not saying that I am immune to being anxious from time to time, but it is very very rare.

I do plan to start the log journal soon. You have provide tons of good information to get started on that and it will happen soon.

When you say cycle, I think you mean something that you only take for 6 or 9 or 12 weeks. I am on TRT from my PCP. I have been for years now. I get my blood tested by my PCP every 6 months to test my T levels. I don't do take anything else besides my blood pressure meds that I have been taking for 20 years.

even with some caffeine that early it will take 24 hours to leave your system believe it or not
Bro....what is the point of living if you cant have a morning coffee by the pool as the sun is coming up. This is how I start my day.

HOW-TO LOG?

Why is a Log Journal important?

  • Doing a log will actually help you way more than just dropping random updates. When you lay it all out week by week you start to see patterns in your body that you won’t catch otherwise.
  • Other guys here run logs all the time and there’s no privacy issue, nobody is asking for your name or anything personal, it is just training, diet, and how the compound feels.
  • The feedback you get is also way better because people can follow along and spot things you might miss. It also helps the next guy who is thinking about running the same compound so you are giving back while you learn.
  • Even if you think you might not stick with it, just starting the log makes it easier to come back and add quick notes. That way you get more out of what you are running instead of keeping it all in your head.
To really guide you we need more info from you.
  • Please share your diet, training, cardio, sleep, supplements etc log with us in a NEW thread, full log journal so our guidance is based on facts you provide.
  • It will take 15-20 minutes max.
  • We have 100s of years of experience between us, so you need to post a LOG Journal with your stats (weight, height, age, years training, cycle history) diet, training, cardio, supplement, sleep details. If you don't log what you eat or train now, open NOTES on phone and start recording it there and paste here. Very easy.
Please post a Log Journal asap for us
