Which one do you like better for doing bicep curls? I like the EZ curl myself the straight makes the weight seem heavier; which is in reality a good thing. I should quit taking the easy way out maybe I'd see some serious gains. I'
ve also read that because of the way you hold the bar the EZ works the outer head and brachiadoris (sp??) more and vice versa.I don't feel any more or less steain on my wrists with one vs. the other although I don't curl massive amounts either. Also I like to use a really narrow grip on the EZ, right where it bends in the middle.<Like in the pics below. What do you guys think? |

In years past, I always preferred a straight bar because fully supinating the hands gives a more complete bicep contraction. But I started having a little wrist pain so I began using EZ curl bars more. But my gym has a machine that allows you to use the handles in either a EZ curl position or straight, and on that particular machine I use the straight position with no problem.

Yeah my upper back gets really pumped when I do straight bar curls as well.
I use the EZ Curl bar as well. I also do all my biceps work seated. |

Actually the straight bar is closer to a supinated position; which is pinkies trying to touch your delts.

I like straight bar for standing curls and ez bar for preachers and throw in the occaisonal hammer grip with the preachers also. Ive heard theories that the straight bar standing with heavy weight is great for bicep thickness and the preacher hits the peak better.

straight bar is best for bi's, but i too find my wrists and and elbows start to get a lil sore with anything over 100lb.
now i do seated dumbells first, ultra strict, and really try and turn my little finger towards me to get the supination i dont get from the ez, then i go on and do standing ez bar curls, then i do preacher one armed cable curls again so i can supinate the bi. also i get a lil pump in my traps whilst doing curls, i do them strict so it must just be from tensing them for stabilisation. i also get a bit pumped in the lats when i do tri pushdowns! |

I also own an arm-blaster!! Awesome for blasting the guns. Those of you that have trouble isolating should search the net and use it along with preacher both normal and vertical side (spider curls.) For an extreme blast I do 21s with the arm blaster!!!!

I did them today, I find I can use more weight with the EZ bar because the pressure is off my wrists and I then tend to feel it a lot more in my biceps due to the combination of better form and higher weight.
Also gives me the luxury of inner/outer grip, which just doesn't feel right on a straight bar (inner that is), feels really strange through my wrists- could just be me :P |
