1. I would like to build a box for squats. Anyone do this and do you have ideas I can use. Right now I am using my bench and I am too cheap to buy a box right now.
2. Do you all think buying chains at home depot or just getting them from a tow yard would work instead of buying them online. 3.On box squats I have read about guys doing 10" box squats. Thats way to low for me. Coach K you said you are at 15 3/4. Is that below or even? 4. Do you think West side works for guys who don't lift with equipment? I plan on buying briefs (power pants) this year as far as support gear goes then I will consider a suit or shirt next if I feel the workouts are going well. I am also buying bands but I am wondering If chains and bands will be beneficial to me if I don't have gear yet. Thanks for the help. |

1. Just make one out of 2x4s and ply wood. A little larger at the base than at the top. If you need a template then just look at your average stool or whatnot. It can't be too hard, I made a push sled with 80 foot of 2x6s with no template, just be **********. Hell I've been stacking plates on one another and just using that for a box for years. I finally got some adjustable step up/box squat/plyo boxes a week ago.
2. Yeah, that can work, but they don't carry anything over 1/2" at home depot, TSC, etc. 2, 6ft joints of 5/8" chain weigh about 45 lbs, so If you wanna put some real wight on the bar (90# plus) you need 5/8 chain. They should have that at a tow yard or shipping company, maybe they have some scrap you can pick up for cheap. It would be better than buying it and paying shipping on 120# of chain. 3. 10" is way too low for this man. I'm 6'4 with long legs. 15" is breaking parallel for me, 15 3/4" is just about dead balls on parallel. I would suggest doing some box squats and filming it to find the right height. 4. I don't see why not, give it a try and find out. |

I have no reason why it edited out the word I-N-N-O-V-A-T-I-V-E but that's what was meant for those asterisks

quad 023.jpg quad 024.jpg Here's one I made had some left over lumber, its just over 12" height. I bought both types of chains ones from home depot and the heavy duty stuff they work great together. If I had to choose on only one set of chains I would want the heavy duty chains though. I second chains and bands they are an awesome addition to any gym. |
