Default Athletedan's update thread...

Hey all! I've been online and checking up on you guys, but not posting a whole lot lately, been busy as with work/training/etc...Thought I better get back on board!

Injuries: Getting there, my back is about 99%, shoulders have settled down a lot, my hips are tight as hell due to some hip flexor issues. Lucky I have a good physio who is working very hard and painfully on me. Getting there. This week I squatted for the first time in 6 months without briefs and set 2 pr's! I've done some damage to my wrist, but I'm dealing with that by using lots of strapping tape...

Lifting: What can I say, I love squatting. Also happens to be the only thing thats going up. My bench has gone backwards this year. I've tried doing more, less, different, but I'm really struggling. Not enjoying bench days at the moment. So squat = good, dealift = good, bench = bad.

Kickboxing: Only about 10 weeks left till my return fight. 2 and a half years in the making. Have signed the contracts and I will be fighting for my 3rd world title. Training is going well, getting fit, and am a lot stronger than the last time I fought. Determined to make a statement that I am back, bigger stronger and better than ever.

All in all I'm going ok, and its good to see all you guys doing so well with your progress. As I said, I've been around, but not posting a lot. I'm back now though, I at least need help with my bench from you guys

Yeah man, and yes, it's cold as hell here atm. No time for bulking though unfortunately. Stil l trying for the PR's but it's the ol' bench has dropped off since i've lost a few pounds. Meh, off to speed bench now....

Give you GD shoulder a break, lighten up the weight no less than 5 reps for a couple months preferably sets of 10reps.

Thanks mate, yeah I'm feeling pretty good aboout the fight, got 9 weeks to go, and everything is right on schedule.

Should have some cool posters and stuff soon, I'll throw em up when I get em, at least it'll make it look like I have an excuse for not being able to lift more....I was training for another sport...?

Hey mate, all is well, been training pretty well apart from the little niggles, my wrists are shot, but everything is coming together now. 6 weeks to go. Starting to get a bit excited as everything picks up in pace. Its been so long since I've been through the process it feels like i'm preparing for my first fight all over again. Benched 335 for the first time this year last week so I'm starting to get to peaking soon. Timing should be about right

OK! 12 Days out now, things are falling into place. Have had some good sparring which has gone well, injuries are on the mend, and fitness and conditioning is just about spot on. Good timing! Looking forward to a bit of time off after the fight, but excited about being able to compete again after such a long layoff with injuries. Now, I know y'all are powerlifters, and I guess a lot of the time I am too, so we'll stick with that.

My weight is down to about 94kg, and yesterday I squatted 445 RAW, which is an all time raw PR for me. Also, the last time I went all out for 1RM at the end of last year I hit 430, but it was at a BW of 99kg, so the legs are stonger, and lighter!

My bench still sucks, but I hit 325 again today, which at the lighter BW, is ok. These are the last lifts I will do for a couple of weeks, and I'm gonna be doing some bodybuilding style routines for 6 weeks or so after that, just to take some load off of my joints and maybe gain some mass in time for summer, hahha, I doubt I'll be able to do sets of more than 4 for too long, so I'll give it at least 2 weeks anyway....

Hope you're all well, I dont post much in the aussie corner, but I like our little PL corner over here and consider you guys part of my little lifting team so I like to keep in touch!

Well, after all that. Fight's off...

To cut a long story short, some guy got bashed in a drunken brawl and died out the front of the venue where the fight was supposed to be held, so the media thought it their duty to make it inappropriate to have a kickboxing event at the venue two weeks later. The whole show has been cancelled. Everyone involved is pretty gutted, including me, who put life on hold for 4 months to prepare.

I suppose to best way to explain it, if there was a death during a fight outside madison square garden, they've just cancelled the next game of the playoffs...Something tragic happened, but our SPORT is completely unrelated, and somehow it's worked out like that.

A couple of easy training weeks now before I prepare for the next fight.
